New Chronic Wasting Disease Case Discovered in Central Texas Deer Breeding Facility

A recent case of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) has been identified in a deer breeding facility in Sutton County, Texas. This marks the first time the disease has been found within the county. Last month, Hamilton and Frio Counties reported two similar cases. Further analysis indicates that ten additional breeding facilities and 18 release sites could have been affected due to previous transfers involving deer from the Sutton County establishment. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Texas Animal Health Commission will continue to investigate and assess the extent of the CWD outbreak. Understanding the implications of this contagious disease in our local wildlife populations is essential for maintaining the health of the Central Texas ecosystem.
