Education Meets Development: The New Early College High School Campus in Round Rock

As the city of Round Rock in Central Texas continues to grow, so does its need for educational facilities. The Round Rock Independent School District (ISD) is evidence of this growth, with the approval of a lease for 2.2 acres on the Austin Community College-Round Rock Campus intended for the design and construction of the new Round Rock Early College High School Campus.

The currently operational Early College School is forced to conduct its classes in various portable classrooms. However, with this approval, the first phase of the new, stationary campus is ready to be initiated. The district has secured a 50-year lease from ACC for an amount of $6 million, which would be paid within a comfortable timeframe of 20 years at a 4 percent annual interest rate.

Construction of the intended campus is scheduled to begin within the coming six to nine months, once all the necessary licenses have been successfully procured. The total construction period is predicted to last for about 16 months.

Development of such educational infrastructure speaks to the city’s commitment to nurturing growth, a commitment amply reflected in the passing of a bond by voters in 2018. This bond, awarding $275.4 million, was intended for projects that would facilitate the district’s growth. To this end, $15 million was allocated specifically for the upcoming ECHS campus.
