Discover the Expansion of Fairfield Lake State Park in Central Texas

Fairfield Lake State Park, a popular destination located in Freestone County, Central Texas, just got the green light for expansion. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission has recently voted unanimously to authorize the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to purchase approximately 5,000 acres of land, which includes the park itself. The park was initially acquired by lease in 1971 from Texas Utilities, now Vistra Energy, and was opened to the public in 1976.

Attracting an average of 80,000 visitors each year, Fairfield Lake State Park is named after its beautiful 2,400-acre Fairfield Lake, and is famous for offering a wide range of activities such as horseback riding, family reunions, paddling, fishing, camping, and hiking. This expansion will bring more opportunities for both locals and tourists to enjoy the natural beauty of Central Texas.
