In a remarkable demonstration of community spirit, over 6,500 volunteers huddled up to clean up our beloved Central Texas beaches in the 2023 Adopt-A-Beach Coastwide Fall Cleanup. The event, held on September 23rd, resulted in the removal of a staggering 220,816 pounds of trash from 22 on-the-map locations; including Port Arthur and South Padre. This year’s sponsorship hailed from a variety of sources, encompassing both state and national interests, reflecting the wide-reaching impact of this program.
The Adopt-A-Beach program traces its beginnings back to the fall of 1986. Just 2,800 humble volunteers bravely confronted 124 tons of trash during the initiative’s debut year. Fast forward to today, this mighty Texan brigade now stands 574,550 members strong and can proudly boast about the nearly 10,000 tons of trash successfully removed from our beaches. The incredible progress made through collaborative efforts highlights the importance of community involvement as we strive towards a cleaner, more sustainable Texas. Let’s continue the drive to keep the Texas coast cleaner and more beautiful for everyone to enjoy. You can find more about Adopt-A-Beach project [here](https://www.texasadoptabeach.org/about)
