Central Texas Public Transportation Going Solar

Central Texas is taking a big stride towards sustainable public transportation as HOLT Renewables announces plans to build a solar-powered charging infrastructure for CapMetro, Austin’s regional public transportation provider. The $34 million, 12-acre project will feature a photovoltaic (PV) canopy system, converting sunlight to usable electricity. With over 7,000 panels and the nation’s largest deployment of pantograph depot chargers—overhead chargers that connect to the vehicle’s battery—the project aims to power CapMetro’s fleet of more than 200 zero-emissions buses. CEO and General Manager of HOLT, Peter J. Holt, expressed enthusiasm in a release, stating that this project “will kickstart the transformation of public transportation in Central Texas.” Read more about this groundbreaking project in the original article [here](https://www.recenter.tamu.edu/news/newstalk-texas/?Item=29059).
