“Travis County Finalizes $35 Million Contract to Provide 640 Units of Housing for the Homeless”

Travis County Commissioners recently passed a $35 million contract with Mobile Loaves & Fishes, a nonprofit organization, to construct 640 housing units for those experiencing homelessness in Burleson Village. The units will be split between microhomes (under 400 square feet) and RV units. The housing complex will additionally offer mental and physical health services, addiction services, Family Eldercare, and restorative justice. Site preparation is estimated to take two years, with the first residences moving in by mid-2025.

Most of the apartments will be reserved for families who are at or below 30 to 60 percent of the median family income, while the remaining 50 will be for people who are experiencing homelessness. The Libertad Austin project is part of a larger effort to create more affordable housing options for the Austin community.
