Expanding Horizons: Austin’s Plan for A New $1.6B Convention Center

The city of Austin is setting the groundwork for a grand expansion within its business landscape with a $1.6 billion investment into a new convention center. The current 30-year-old convention center will make way for an advanced architectural wonder that nearly doubles its predecessor’s size with over 700,000 square feet. The new center will boast an impressive exhibition space of 360,000 square feet, representing Austin’s commitment to boosting its local event and expo capabilities. The project management reins have been handed over to San Antonio-based firm Project Control of Texas Inc. With a $30 million contract in place, the firm will be in charge of the entire delta from planning to construction. Although the construction kickoff isn’t until slated for 2025, Austin is bursting with anticipation for its grand unveiling expected by 2029.
