In a groundbreaking move bound to light a fire in the heart of Texas’ space industry, Bastrop city council has endorsed Acutronic USA Inc.’s ambitious plan to build the first jet engine manufacturing facility in the state. With more than $1 million in incentives on offer, the vision to have Texas at the forefront of the aerospace sector seems set to take flight.
The manufacturing plant has land reserved within the strategic location of the Bastrop Business and Industrial Park, which is to the east of the downtown area and south of SH 71. The planned area for the manufacturing site covers ten acres, which will house the manufacturing facility—an illustrious addition to Texas’ industrial lineage.
Acutronic isn’t new to the area, with its aerospace components division already staking roots in Austin. This division specializes in creating integral flight components such as hardware, small jet engines, actuators, and power systems. The Bastrop plant is expected to faithfully serve these operations.
To facilitate this significant development, the city has agreed to sell land worth $1.1 million to Acutronic. In reciprocation, the aerospace company has committed to create at least 20,000 square feet of production space, with an investment of at least $4 million, and to generate at least 50 full time-job opportunities within the next half a decade. These positions will offer an average compensation of $56,240. Acutronic aims to primarily hire locally, with at least 75% of employees to be residents of Bastrop County.
As part of the agreement, Acutronic is also obligated to commence construction within 120 days of the city delivering a shovel-ready site. The company must move into the building within 32 months of initiating construction.
Further reflecting its commitment to this project, the city has pledged an estimated $1 million towards infrastructure improvements at the site.
